Change a member's email address

To update a member's email address, follow the steps below. Keep in mind that you will only be able to make changes to a member's account if you have a higher permission role than them.

Update an email address

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
  2. Hover over Tools & settings, then click Manage members.
  3. Click the  three dots icon to the right of the member whose email address you’d like to change.
  4. Click Edit profile.
  5. Edit their email address, then click Save.

Note: If single sign-on (SSO) is enabled for your workspace, you may need to check your settings before you’re able to change a member’s email address. You’ll also need to send a new binding email after you make a change.

When single sign-on is enabled

If your workspace is using SSO, make sure your settings allow members to change their email address.

Note: Only Workspace Owners can allow members to change their email address in SSO settings.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
  2. Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Below Administration in the left sidebar, click SSO & authentication.
  4. Click Edit next to Email address changes
  5. Make sure the box next to Allow users to change their email address is checked.
  6. Click Save.

Temporarily changing this preference will let you manually change an email address by following the steps above.

Tip: If you’re using SAML-based SSO, you can update a member’s email address from your identity provider (IDP). It will be updated the next time the member signs in to Slack.
